Places to shop
Local Produce at a Farmers Market
There are a number of places where we all can shop to source the freshest and most authentic ingredients for our vegetarian kitchen.
- Local Produce
The best way to buy fruit and vegetables is fresh and in season. Many communities hold frequent farmers markets where locally grown and fresh produce can be brought straight from the supplier. Fresh local produce is often tastier and healthier, than that supplied by supermarkets, as it has not be stored for long periods and shipped across the country. Check out your local community of farmers market or even better consider growing your own for unbeatably the freshest and tastiest produce. - Ethnic Grocers
Ethnic grocers provide access to a wide variety of exciting and delicious foods not commonly available from the typical supermarket. Being able to choose from authentic Indian, East Asian, Thai, Malaysian and Japanese foods opens up a whole new range of wonderful flavours and textures. Visit as often as you can to stock up on spices, sauces, noodles and a wide variety of exotic ingredients that can be used in everyday cooking. - Supermarkets
Supermarkets offer a variety of products and produce in one convenient location. Many larger supermarkets now have a dedicated vegetarian section where you can find processed tofu and other meat alternative products like veggie burgers and sausages. Be sure to check the labels of these kinds of products as many will contain an assortment of artificial additives and preservatives which may be worth avoiding. Supermarkets are also a good place to stock up on dried and canned goods and if buying fruit and vegetable look for locally grown or organic produce.
