Fresh local produce is often tastier and healthier than that supplied by supermarkets, as it has not be cold stored for long periods and shipped across the country. Check out your local community farmers market or green grocer or even better consider growing your own for unbeatably the freshest and tastiest produce.

    Health food and wholefood stores offer a wide variety of organic and natural ingredients and products that, along with fresh fruit and vegetables, should form the basis of your pantry. These types of stores are fantastic for stocking up on bulk nuts, seeds, cereals, baking goods, teas as well as cleaning and personal products. They are a good place to find a variety of vegetarian friendly foods and meat alternatives like egg re-placer, non-dairy and soy products and will often be willing to source particular goods for you. A great place to find organic, raw and vegan foods and alternatives to the overly processed items usually stocking your local supermarket shelves.

    Asian & Ethnic supermarkets provide access to a wide variety of exciting and delicious foods not commonly available from your typical supermarket or corner store. Being able to choose from authentic Indian, East Asian, Thai, Malaysian and Japanese foods opens up a whole new range of wonderful flavours and textures. Visit as often as you can to stock up on spices, sauces, noodles and a wide variety of exotic ingredients that can be used in everyday cooking.
